There are a number of life processes essential to plants.

Photosynthesis: the capture of energy from the sun and storage of it in the bonds of glucose
Respiration: the breakdown of glucose to release energy which is used in cellular processes
Transpiration: the evaporative loss of water through a plant's stomata. Stomata are found on leaves and are able to open and close allowing water to evaporate when needed. Stomata also allow carbon dioxide to enter the plant. Transpiration cools the plant and lowers the osmotic pressure. A decrease in osmotic pressure causes water to move from roots to shoots via capillary action. For a video clip on Transpiration click on the link below.
Reproduction: asexual typically from vegetative reproduction (cuttings, budding, tillering, rhizomes, bulbs) or sexual typically via a female gametophyte and a male sporophyte. You will learn more about reproduction in plants in the next section.
