Instructions
The science portion of the CSET requires that you successfully answer two short constructed response questions. A successful answer is one on which you score either a 3 or a 2. The short constructed responses carry 30% of the test weight. You must correctly answer them to pass the test.
Although the questions appear to require essay answers, the "short constructed-response" questions do not need to be answered in essay format and the answers are not necessarily lengthy. Labeled diagrams, bullet points, paragraphs, and tables are all acceptable answer forms. What is important is that you address the key points and offer supporting evidence when asked.
On the CSET webpage you will find a short practice test with a number of sample responses as well as a scoring guide.
It is in your best interest to practice writing a response to each of the following prompts. The format can differ from that of the sample answers but you should address the same key points. Remember, present the information in a simple, straightforward manner, address the key points of the question, and offer scientific evidence to support your answer when required.
